Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Periodontal Care

How can we help you?

When it comes to your health, there’s no such thing as a silly question! Below are a few of our frequently asked questions. Feel free to call our office at 716-772-7500 and we’ll be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Periodontal Care

care for dental implants lockport nyDental implants look like natural teeth, feel like natural teeth, and are cared for like natural teeth with your toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss. We ask that you pay special attention to the spaces between teeth as well as the transition to the gums to keep bacteria from getting to the jawbone and causing trouble. Dr. Kaplansky’s dental hygienists will work with you to develop a personalized home care program that’s right for you.

Personalized Dental Implant Care

Every patient is different, and your needs will vary based on your unique procedure. Working with an experienced dentist is the best way to ensure that you get the perfect treatment plan for your needs. That being said, keeping to your dental care after your dental implants have been placed is vital as well. Give us a call today with any questions!

The short answer is—we can answer that question after your initial consultation. Utilizing our advanced in-office imaging technology such as 3-D Computed Tomography (CBCT), Dr. Kaplansky will determine if you require a bone graft to facilitate dental implant placement. We can perform bone grafting before implant placement or at the same time that we place it.

Bone grafting is sometimes necessary to improve the results of dental implant surgery. The bone that we graft into your tooth cavity will help to strengthen the area, and it gives your dental implant a more sturdy area to bond to once we place the implant. Not everyone needs this procedure, and the only way to know for sure if you will need this treatment in conjunction with your implant is to consult with a dentist.
