We're aware that some patients would rather be anywhere else than in a dental office. For some people, it's a little knot in the stomach, but for others, dental anxiety is so crippling that it prevents them from seeking dental care at all.
Here at Dentistry by Dr. Kaplansky, we treat all our patients with kindness, compassion, and respect for their unique concerns. Whatever your level of dental anxiety, we are pleased to offer sedation dentistry to help you relax and get the treatments you need to enjoy the benefits of optimal oral health.
We Customize Your Treatment
You are unique, and your dental treatment will be personalized to make your care as comfortable and stress-free as possible. There's no reason to be embarrassed about your anxiety - it's estimated that about 15 percent of Americans suffer from dental anxiety. That's 80 million people!
Everyone has different reasons for their anxiety. For some it's the smells and sounds of a dental office; for others, it's related to a bad experience with a dentist in the past. Whatever the reason, we encourage you to share your concerns with us so we can customize your treatment and sedation to fit your needs.
Types of Sedation We Offer
Sedation dentistry options at our Lockport, NY dental office include:
With oral sedation, Dr. Kaplansky will prescribe a sedative for you to take about an hour before your appointment. This gives the medicine time to work so when you arrive at our office you will already feel its calming effects. You will feel relaxed and drowsy, and some patients even drift off during their procedure
Because the medicine stays in your system for several hours after treatment, you will need a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment.
If you would prefer to "go to sleep" for the procedure, we're happy to accommodate your needs with IV (intravenous) sedation. Your safety is one of our highest priorities, so we are pleased to offer the services of a board-certified anesthesiologist who comes to our office to administer IV sedation. IV sedation will leave you in a semi-conscious state so you will still be able to communicate with the doctor as needed. But you will be unaware of the activity around you and have little or no memory of what took place during your procedure.
