Let’s walk through the process of getting dentures so that you can understand every step, from scheduling the appointment to taking your new smile home. You should feel completely informed and comfortable with the process, and knowing what to expect makes everything easier.
First, you'll call our Gasport dental office to schedule a consultation. We will do a thorough examination of your teeth and discuss your specific needs. We will want to determine whether dentures are right for you, and if so, what kind. There are different types of dentures:
- Partial dentures: for those with only some missing teeth. Partial dentures are designed to fit in between the remaining teeth. We will create these specifically for your mouth and integrate them so that they match your other teeth.
- Complete dentures: for those with all missing teeth. These dentures can be customized so you will get just the smile you have wanted. Something natural? A movie star smile? You have options.
What Happens Next?
After we determine what the right type of denture is for you, we will take several impressions of your mouth. We will create models of your jaw and teeth with wax so we will know the exact positioning of your dentures. Then you’ll try on the models to be certain that the fit is comfortable.
Once we know that the fit perfect, we will have the dentures made. We’ll fit the new dentures in your mouth again to ensure that the fit is perfect. Dr. Kaplansky will continue to make any adjustments necessary by altering the dentures as needed to create a comfortable bite.
There will be a period of adjusting to your new dentures. You will have to learn how to eat and talk comfortably. While this can take some time, every time you look in the mirror at your beautiful new smile, you will feel better.
Time and Cost
The entire process from beginning to end can take four to six weeks. There will be several appointments, but we will accommodate your busy schedule and will ask you to come in only when necessary. We want to be sure your new dentures fit perfectly and comfortably.
The cost of your dentures will vary depending on whether you need only a partial or full set of dentures. Some dental insurance plans will cover dentures, and others will not. We’ll be happy to check with your dental insurance plan so that you know what the final cost will be for you. There are also third-party financing options such as CareCredit that you can investigate.
Having a full set of functioning teeth will help you to eat and talk comfortably, and laugh again. You can’t put a price on that! Take the first step and schedule your free consultation today.
