Tooth Replacement Options

Uh-oh! You’ve lost a tooth! After you get over the initial shock, you have an important decision to make. What to do about that unsightly gap? Deciding on the best way to deal with a missing tooth is never easy. But don’t despair - today you have lots of options for restoring your smile!

Of course, we are always here to help. So we’d like to take some time to educate you about replacement options so that you have the information necessary to make that important decision.

Full or Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures have small clasps that clip on to adjacent teeth to hold them securely in place. This is an economical and easy way to deal with one Denturesor more missing teeth, and we offer full or partial dentures depending on your needs.

The process: You will come in to our Gasport dental office for a consultation. We take several impressions of your teeth to create dentures that are customized to fit your mouth and enhance that beautiful smile. When your new dentures are ready, you will come back for a fitting and care instructions.

Fixed Bridges

The purpose of a bridge is to fill the space left by a missing tooth. Dental bridges rely on the adjacent teeth to support it and hold it in place. A fixed bridge is a permanent dental appliance and can be customized to look completely natural so no one will be able to tell that the tooth is not your own.

The process: After your initial consultation you will come in for an appointment, and we will prepare the teeth on either side of the missing tooth by shaping them so that a crown can be placed on each.

You will receive a temporary bridge to wear while your permanent bridge is being created. The final step is one more visit to our office so we can make any necessary adjustments and cement the permanent bridge in place.

Mini Dental Implants

A dental implant is a replacement for your missing tooth. The replacement tooth actually looks and feels very much like a real tooth. This implant is inserted into the place where your missing tooth used to be.

Whether you are missing one tooth or several, you may be a good candidate for a dental implant. Placing regular dental implants can take some time, but mini dental implants available at our Gasport dental office can often be placed in just one visit.

The process: After a consultation to decide if a dental implant is right for you, we prepare the bone to receive the implant. The implant is a screw-like device that will be placed in the bone to root your new tooth. After your gum has healed, a special post with your new crown will be placed on the dental implant.

Now that you have some detailed information about your options, you can begin to consider which of these seems to best fit your lifestyle and budget. Of course, we also need to take your dental health and specific situation into account. Together we can work toward restoring your beautiful smile so you can smile with confidence and get on with your life.
