A common question that we get in the office is about bone grafting and dental implants. The short answer is—we can answer that question after your initial consultation. Utilizing our advanced in-office imaging technology such as 3-D Computed Tomography (CBCT), Dr. Kaplansky will determine if you require a bone graft to facilitate dental implant placement. We can perform bone grafting before implant placement or at the same time that we place it.
Bone grafting is sometimes necessary to improve the results of dental implant surgery. The bone that we graft into your tooth cavity will help to strengthen the area, and it gives your dental implant a more sturdy area to bond to once we place the implant. Not everyone needs this procedure, and the only way to know for sure if you will need this treatment in conjunction with your implant is to consult with a dentist.
