A common question that we get in the office is about bone grafting and dental implants. The only way we can answer all of your questions in detail is after your initial consultation. Utilizing our advanced in-office imaging technology, such as 3-D Computed Tomography (CBCT), Dr. Kaplansky or Dr. Smith will determine if you require a bone graft to facilitate dental implant placement. We can perform bone grafting before placing the implant, or we can perform the grafting and placement during the same session.
When Is Bone Grafting Needed?
Bone grafting is sometimes necessary to improve the results of dental implant surgery. The bone that we graft into your tooth cavity will help strengthen the area, and it gives your dental implant a more sturdy area to bond to once we place the implant. Not everyone needs this procedure, and the only way to know for sure if you will need this treatment along with your implant is to consult with your Gasport dentist.
