What is the difference between a dental implant and a mini-implant?

When you decide to replace your missing tooth, you may find that you have a couple of options. Depending on the bone structure of your jaw and how many teeth you are looking to replace you may consider dental implants. But did you know that you can also choose to have mini-implants placed instead? Find out the difference between dental implants and mini-implants here!

Dental Implant

A dental implant consists of a base that is made from titanium or another material that is compatible with the human body. This base is placed in the bone of the jaw, and an abutment piece is used to attach a life-like crown at the gum line.

Mini-Implant

A mini-implant is a dental implant that is simply smaller in diameter. This can offer several advantages including faster healing time and less time spent in surgery. This may also be a good option for patients who have less-than-ideal jaw bone health.

Either form of dental implant is a great choice for long-term tooth replacement. Implants are extremely functional and comfortable, and they look just like natural teeth! Schedule a consultation with Dr. Igor Kaplansky to find out which type of implant is right for you.
