Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re lucky enough to have avoided dental emergencies up to this point, you might not have a clear understanding of what qualifies as a dental emergency.

It’s helpful to think of a dental emergency as an event or injury that immediately and unexpectedly alters your smile or puts your oral health at risk.

Common dental emergency scenarios include:

  • Breaking a tooth on a piece of hard food
  • Losing a dental restoration in a sticky or chewy candy
  • Hitting your mouth during an auto accident
  • Getting hit in the face with a ball, puck, frisbee, or fist during a sporting event
  • Falling and hitting your mouth on concrete or ice

At Dentistry by Dr. Kaplansky, we commonly treat dental emergencies in Lockport, NY. Some of the injuries we see most regularly include:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Knocked-out or loose teeth
  • Infected or abscessed teeth

How can Dr. Kaplansky help your toothache?

If you have an after-hours dental emergency in Gasport, NY, you’ll need to get treatment right away.

At Dentistry by Dr. Kaplansky, we treat dental emergencies and urgent injuries no matter the time of day. You can call our dental office 24/7 at (716) 772-7500 if you need to schedule an emergency dental appointment.

When you have an emergency like a knocked-out tooth or broken dental restoration, it’s best to visit your Lockport emergency dentist rather than heading for the hospital. Most emergency rooms aren’t designed to handle dental procedures and won’t have the necessary tools or materials on hand to perform your treatment.

You should only go straight to the emergency room if you have a broken jaw or if you believe you’re experiencing a life-threatening emergency or infection.

We know that your dental emergency likely won’t happen when it’s convenient for you or when you’re expecting them, which is why we offer emergency dental appointments after hours and on the weekends if you need them. The best thing to do is call our dental office at (716) 772-7500 so that a member of our treatment team can get the details about what happened.

Some dental emergencies require treatment within minutes, while others can wait a few hours or even until the next morning, depending on their severity. We will always schedule your appointment when it is appropriate and best for your smile.

We don't make you wait.

We strive to see you immediately when you arrive. When the average waiting time in US doctors’ offices is nearing 40 minutes, at Dentistry by Dr. Kaplansky we have the utmost respect for our patients’ time — and we don’t make them wait. Our average wait time is less than 10 minutes.

Highest infection control standards.

Patient safety is of utmost importance at Dentistry by Dr. Kaplansky. Using newest and best sterilization and disinfection techniques, we meet and exceed all guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We don't use community water in our dental units, only sterile distilled water, and even the air you breathe in our office is sterilized by ultraviolet rays to eliminate harmful bacteria and viruses.

3D imaging for a 3D you.

Dr. Kaplansky was one of the first in Western New York to invest into a CBCT unit. It stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography. You can think of it as a dental CAT scan. This machine produces amazingly accurate 1:1 images of teeth and jaws in 3D with a very low radiation exposure. We use it extensively for implant surgery planning, complicated extraction cases, as well as root canal treatments and orthodontics. Better imaging leads to better diagnosis and precision in planning that in turn leads to better treatment outcomes and much happier patients.
